Vons Foundation History

The Vons Foundation was started in 1995 as a grassroots level fundraising program. It is through the grassroots approach that the Vons Foundation is able to make donations to many organizations, thus addressing a broad spectrum of social issues. Eleven years later, the Foundation still maintains its commitment to local issues, but has since grown in the volume of charities it is able to impact.

The Foundation has grown thanks, in large part, to Vons and Pavilions employees through the Community Champions Payroll Deduction Program, which started in 2001. Every year, employees are encouraged to give back to the communities they serve by making a pledge to the Vons Foundation. It is through their generosity that we came up with our motto, “Vons Foundation: Employees Making a Difference.”

The Annual Vons Foundation Golf Classic is the primary fundraiser for the Vons Foundation. Each fall, over 150 golfers, primarily made up of Vons officers, administrators and other associates, as well as many of Vons’ vendors and suppliers, enjoy the day in a carefree, lighthearted game of golf to raise funds for the Foundation.

To date, the Vons Foundation has awarded close to $4 million in grants as charitable funding to local non-profit organizations since its inception.
